Don’t Let Social Media Bog you Down

Social media can be a great way to express your creative side and interact with friends and family.

However, there are also downsides to using apps like Facebook and Instagram. They have been associated with high levels of anxiety, depression, bullying and FOMO, or the “fear of missing out.”

We use social media to project “postcard happy lives ” and  we rarely share everyday or more difficult situations like paying the bills, having a disagreement with our boss or getting that unexpected flat tire.

When you are on social media, remember that our lives exist well beyond the confines of a 2-by-4 inch screen. This week, unplug, take a load off, and don’t let your life be defined by filters or captions. Make it a point to realize that these “picture-perfect” lives aren’t necessarily the most authentic.

You’ll be amazed at all the things you would have missed if you were staring at your phone all day!
